Conservative Christians and Creationism

For many a conservative Christian, the road ahead is frightening and painful. For me, a life-long Christian and a Presbyterian pastor for 40 years, it's sad beyond description how the conservative churches in this country have failed. Rather than equipping their members to live well in the world - being the salt of the earth - they have vilified the world, creating one enemy after the other, offering, not enlightenment for their congregations, but shelter from the world - Plato's cave comes to mind. In recent years, home-schooling has provided an additional haven for them and their children.

Yet they learned an important lesson from liberals - social activism, and one of their pieces: take charge of school boards.

It's terribly important that liberals pay attention. Our track record on civil rights reminds me that organization is critical, and perhaps we've got to go to work and be sure that we have the right people on our school boards. We can write and talk all we want, but if we're not represented on our school boards, our voice is meaningless.

Hopefully, Mr. Harris and what is happening in Texas will energize liberals around the nation to take a close look at their school boards, and, if needed, throw some hats into the ring and seek election.

To read more about Mr. Harris and Connecticut, check out Michael Zimmerman's fine article in Huffington Post.

  1. Creationism is not evident in the Bible anywhere. It does not mean it is not possible, but there is no evidence for it.

One of the biggest "proofs" against Creationism (my own hypothesis) is that the stars seen through Hubble are Billions of light years away, thus they were around Billions of years ago.

This disproves the Earth is 4-6K years old. It is absurd. Unless the star fields are not real stars, but are holograms on an inward pointing sphere surrounding the Earth, it is impossible that the Earth and Universe is not Billions of years old.

Furthermore, I am not sure that Evolution explains all about life on Earth. There may be variations to this theory, or it could be wrong entirely. There may be something as wild as life originating on Earth via "spores" from other life beyond Earth, or bacteria from Comet hits on early Earth, or something we can not fathom (there is life found in the most inhospitable places on Earth, such as Volcanoes, and Acid lakes). IF evolutionary theory is wrong, it still does not prove Creationism correct.

However, Genesis, if you read it properly, DOES, coincide with Evolutionary theory and "Big Bang" theories.

Let's face it. NO ONE (except God, and perhaps other "entities" was alive at the time of the Universe's Creation, or the Earth's Creation. Therefore, NO ONE KNOWS how the Earth was created, or life. Choose what you want to believe. However, do not choose Creationism. It is, as far as all data suggests, NOT RIGHT. Again. Only if the entire Universe itself is a deception could it be right. I chose not to believe that God would work that way.

As a member of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology I can tell you that ALL of the "human footprints with Dinosaur footprints" etc. shown are completely FAKE. This is deception.

It is dis-concerning that Creationists are using deception to mislead people into following the Lord. This should NEVER be the method used to get people to follow the Lord, even if it works.

    Deception is wrong. Period.
